The skincare trick my mom hid from me š±āØ
This trick kept her skin flawless and glowing for decades and I canāt believe I didnāt know about it sooner! šš
Hi friends! āļø
This past week, things actually felt smoothā¦for a second.
And thenāwhamālife had other plans. š«
Between work deadlines, kids, and packing for a family trip (seriously, am I packing or moving to a different country?!), itās been a whirlwind.
My skin? Tired.
My closet? Overflowing.
My brain? All over the place.
Soā¦Iāve been sticking to what works: my mamaās skincare secrets to save my tired skin, clearing out clutter like my life depends on it and reminding myself to celebrate the wins, even if lifeās a hot mess.
Oh, and letās talk about those moments when you feel off track in lifeāand how changing that mindset has been my secret sauce for growth lately.
More on that laterā¦ š
My momās skincare secrets you NEED to knowā¦
Momās skin: flawless. Me: living my best Tiny Toons life. Some things never change. šā¤ļø
Thereās just something about my momās skincare tipsāthey never fail me.
Especially in the colder months š„¶, when my skin needs extra love, I always go back to her advice.
These simple, no-fuss tricks make my skin soft, hydrated, and glowing every time.
Hereās how Iāve been adding her wisdom to my routine:
Powder to Double Cleanse āØ
My mom always starts with a cleansing balm to melt away makeup, followed by a powder cleanser for a gentle exfoliation. It leaves your skin soft, clean, and perfectly hydratedālike a mini spa moment!Rice Water Wash š
āNever waste rice water,ā she saysāand now I get it. Itās packed with antioxidants and vitamins to brighten and soften your skin. Just soak rice, strain the water, and rinse. Easy and effective!Ginseng Serum šæ
This āmagic potionā is her secret to glowing skin. Itās a collagen-boosting, anti-inflammatory powerhouse that keeps your skin plump, youthful, and energized.Vitamin E Capsules š
She hid this one from me (or just forgot to tell me š) but when she did, I thought sheād lost it. Cutting open Vitamin E gels and rubbing the oil on her face? For wrinkles, scars, and even psoriasis? Turns out, sheās not crazyāsheās a genius. And way cheaper than fancy creams.Use a Brush, Never Hands šļø
Mom never washes her face with her hands. Sheās been using this cleansing brush since I was a teen! Itās cleaner, gentler, and gets deeper into those pores for a flawless finish.
Her motto? āSkincare doesnāt have to be complicatedājust consistent.ā And as always, sheās absolutely right. š«¶
Out with the oldā¦and in with the NEW!
Lately, Iāve been decluttering like my sanity depends on it. (Spoiler: It kind of does. š)
Hereās the deal: If I havenāt worn it in six months, itās going straight to donation. Because letās be honestāif I havenāt touched it by now, Iām not going to start.
Decluttering doesnāt just clear your spaceāit clears your mind, too.
Hereās whatās been actually working for me:
The 12-12-12 Rule š”
Find 12 items to toss, 12 to donate, and 12 to put back where they belong.
Itās quick, satisfying, and makes a noticeable difference without feeling overwhelming.
Reverse Hanger Trick š
Hang all your clothes with the hangers facing backward. After you wear something, turn the hanger the right way. After six months, whateverās still backward clearly isnāt making the cut.
Ask the "Would I Buy This Again?" Question šø
Hold each item and ask yourself, āIf I saw this in a store right now, would I buy it?ā If the answer is no, itās time to say goodbye.
Declutter by Category š¦
Instead of going room by room, tackle one category at a timeālike clothes, books, or beauty products. Itās less overwhelming and helps you focus on whatās worth keeping.
The Box Test š¤
Pack up items you think you donāt need but arenāt sure about. If you donāt miss them after a month, donate the whole box without even opening it.
Celebrating the wins (even when itās hard)
Me, realizing I deserve to laugh, smile, and celebrate all the little wins. š
Life has its ups and downs, doesnāt it?
TBH, the start of this year felt slow. I had zero motivation for new projects and felt like everything Iād built over the last decade had justā¦stalled. š
Having two kids definitely shifted things for me. I felt like I wasnāt giving 100% to anything. I was just getting by, trying to make things work, but nothing really stuck.
Hereās the thing: Even when you love what you do, there are going to be times when it feels off.
Itās SO easy to fall into self-doubt, thinkingā¦
āEveryone else is doing better than me.ā
āWhy am I even trying?ā
āIām just not good enoughā
But thatās just not true.
Fast forward six months, and things started to turn around. Whether it was the universe sending me a sign or just finally hitting my stride, things began falling into place.
If youāve ever felt like youāve missed an opportunity, take it as a sign that it wasnāt meant for youābecause you were meant for something better.
When I started this newsletter, I had 0 readers and thought, āNo oneās going to care about this.ā But journaling has always been my thing, and it felt like the most natural way to connect with you on a deeper level.
The first few months were rough (hello, crickets š¦), but now?
Weāve grown to over 15K readers, and I couldnāt be more grateful. š
Youāve shown up, supported me, and honestly? Youāve become my unofficial therapists. š So, thank you.
Thank you for being here, for reading, and for taking a moment out of your busy lives each week to share this space with me. It means more than you know.
See you next week. š
