Skincare Secrets From My 65-Year-Old Mom (Who Looks 45)

Mom Said I Look Exhausted – Here’s Her Skincare Tips That WORKED!

Hey beautiful,

Welcome to my very first official newsletter! 🎉

I've been a content creator for 10 years! Yes, a whole decade of beauty tips, product reviews, and countless tutorials.

This is a major step for me because if you've been with me for the last decade, you know I've always played it pretty safe on all my platforms.

This newsletter is like my public journal, a way for those of you interested in seeing more behind the face of @chiutips to get a glimpse of the real me.

There are things here I’ll never post on IG. 🤫

First off, I’m beyond excited that you’re here. I hope you enjoy the weekly newsletter and find something valuable, helpful, or even just a little laugh at our shared life experiences.

Let’s jump into this week’s tips, tricks & topics!

Throwback to a timeless photo of Mom and me. And believe it or not, her skin still looks just as flawless!

Skincare Tips From My Mom (She’s 65 But Looks 45)

My mom came over this weekend to watch the kids so Jeff and I could have a date night.

Classic Asian mom move, she takes one look at me and says in Chinese:

"You look exhausted. Are you keeping up with your skincare routine?" I couldn't help but chuckle before replying, "Mom, with two kids running around, my skincare routine is just slapping on whatever I can before one of them starts crying!"

But then...

After our date, I thought more about what my mom said earlier that night.

She is 65 and her skin looks incredible, so I figured if I want to look like her at that age, I should probably give my skin some TLC.

Here's what she told me to do:

  1. Clean your skin well (double cleanse) and steam the face.

  2. Rinse with cold water for 15 seconds.

    • TIP: Splash cold water or press a cold towel on the face for a minute. This is going to help tighten your skin.

  3. Apply a milky toner

    • TIP: I learned that Korean girls use this Snow Mushroom Milky Toner because it gives them glass skin and doesn’t strip away moisture!

  4. Dab essence all over the face and neck.

    • TIP: Warm it up in your hands and press into the skin. Essence is a mix between serum & toner and is a must have. My mom and I love this Korean Bean Essence!

  5. Apply eye serum (not just under the eyes)

    • TIP: My mom swears by this Korean Retinal Niacinamide Eye Serum for everything – it's super concentrated for aging areas. Use it on the forehead, fine lines, laugh lines and dry cuticles!

So there you have it – the secret to looking as young as my mom. If only it could also make me feel less tired! 🥱

Outfit Post (Because Getting Dressed Is An Achievement)

Alright, look. I grew up in the 90s. Think belts over shirts, butterfly clips, and baggy overalls that could double as parachutes. 😲

After becoming a mom, I kinda lost my fashion identity. I was just "Mom" now, and my style was pretty much "whatever's clean and not covered in kid stuff."

But recently, I think I've cracked the code. Wide leg pants? Yes, please!

These are my absolute favourite High Rise Wide Jeans right now because:

  1. They are high-waisted and give a really nice silhouette.

  2. They make your bum look great.

  3. They’re stylish and soooo comfortable.

Plus, I’ve stocked up on these Soft Ribbed Crew Neck Long Sleeve T-Shirts in four colours because they’re perfect for layering and look awesome with every outfit!

These NB 327 Sneakers are my ultimate choice for any occasion - whether it's navigating the airport, running errands, or hitting the gym. They effortlessly complement any outfit, adding a touch of chic to my look. 😍

I just realized what my style is now: elevated comfy. Is that a thing? Well, it is now!

Shower Thoughts (Where All My Genius Ideas Happen)

The other day, I found myself just standing in the shower, not moving, not washing, just thinking. You know those moments, right?

Usually, my shower thoughts are a mix of my endless to-do list, wondering if my kids are eating enough vegetables, and how much laundry there is to do…

But today was different. I woke up well-rested (a rare miracle with toddlers), and I started imagining the best version of my life.

Is there a dimension where I’m living an even better life? What does that look like?

Being on social media for the last decade definitely fuels the comparison game. Everyone else seems to be doing better, having more fun, and living their best lives.

But here’s the thing – you never know what’s happening behind the scenes.

What I can do is focus on my own path because it’s the only one that truly matters.

Here are a few things I try to keep in mind:

  • Set your own goals: Who cares if Janet is learning French and sipping wine in the countryside? Focus on what excites you!

  • Celebrate your wins: Even if it's planning that bucket-list trip, even if it's just a Pinterest board for now.

  • Follow your heart: Let your instincts guide you, even when logic tries to take over.

You can achieve anything if you can dream it, make a realistic plan, and follow through. Believe in yourself. 💪

Remember, life comes from you, not at you.

Your forever cheerleader,

xo Jen 😘
